Police control

I had a wonderful drive to Hermanus. The sun kept watching me all the time. I ran in to a Police control and I was almost “arrested”. The reason was that I passed the cars, lining up for control, on the wrong side. The officer was kind and let me go.

Comparing (c)apes

Baboon

I can in some way compare the different capes, North Cape in Norway and Cape Point in SA.
The animals are all likewise stupid, they will not move for vehicles. Rein deer’s are slightly bigger than baboons.
Norway is 10 times more expensive. I just played 8Rand (6.50 KR) for a beer in a hotel bar. In Norway you easily pay 70 KR. (then I bought a small bottle of water, 10 Rand!).
The hills and mountains are very much the same. SA has no “Fjord” but the mountains down here are higher. No trees though, but the climate at North Cape is more arktiic.
Norway has no Penguins but mid night sun.
Both capes got whales, but the whales down here are bigger.

Cape Point

Cape Point Sign

Now I have checked one of my prime goals with this trip, Cape Point. It was nice and I had lunch in a restaurant with a great view.

How to bribe a security man

Security

I had dinner together with a security man. This was a bribe to make him look after my bike for the night. There are security men all over the town. Anyway, it was nice, he came from Jo-burg and went to Cape Town to get a better life.
The bribe was successful; my bike survived the night on the street.

New cellular number for SA

I got a SA cellular to make cheap calls down here. Feel free to send me an SMS ;). The number is +27 82 851 07 28

Far away

Now I got proof, Helsinki and Oslo are more known than Stockholm 🙂 And I thougt Sweden had a particular place in the South African mind because of our support for Mandela.

Far away

Table mountain but no Robben Island

taffelThis morning I got up early, 4 hour sleep is enough! I wanted to go up on the Table Mountain and visit Robben Island before I leave for the Point.

The Cable Car upp the hill is spectacular and the view breathtaking. I was practically alone with a bunch of Swedish people. I think they where Sponsor people from the Race, the all had different Volvo Ocean Race gadgets.

But I will miss Robben Island, it was closed. On a Sunday! I realize there are many reason for coming back.

Mama Africa

Mama Africa live bandWOW! A splendid band, mainly on drums and xylophones. And so young. I couldn’t leave. I tried to record some of it bat I don’t yet know how to get on the web. Same bad quality pictures from my cellular will have to do so far.

Going out

Ok, now I’m set for the night. I have a small room at Blue Mountain Backpacker. It’s right in the street where all the pubs and restaurants with live music are situated. I will go to the bar “Mama Africa” where a SA live band will play.

Falling rocks and sunset

I planed to get to the point of good hope (or just point as the say here) already today but the road was blocked due to falling rocks. I’ll have to go there tomorrow.

The way to the pointOn my way back I had the most marvellous sunset in the Atlantic Ocean. And the Table  Mountain looked astonishing in the yellow light.
