Getting around
This is more a travelling and planing blog so if you are looking for my daily life, you’ll have to look somewhere else :)2008 South Africa
Planing
This is going to be a trip made out of two parts. I’ll begin in Cape Town renting a bike (BMW R1200GS) and then drive off to Jo’burg. The second part is very basic camping in tents and living close to nature. I will join a group doing eco turism, beginning in Kruger Park, travelling through Botewana and then into Zambia. There I will see Victoria falls and the city of Livingstone.
Program, in brief
Leaving Stockholm 14/11 for Johannesburg. Down in Jo’burg I’ll divide my luggage in two, leaving the Safari-stuff at the airport. Getting on a domestic flight to Cape Town to pic up my bike late in the afternoon. The evening will be spent on Cape of Good Hope. As I also love to Sail, I hope I can watch the boats from Volvo Ocean Race as the pass by.
The next day I will spend in Cape Town, visiting Robben Island and Table Mountain National Park. I will stay for the night in Betty’s Bay to watch wales from shore.
For the next 4 days I will be riding along the south-east cost line of South Africa. Visiting places like Die Hel (wonderful dirt roads and hill climbing for a bike rider), Knysna, Port Elisabeth and Durban.
The last days of the bike part is not completely planned yet. I want to see Drakensberg and Zululand.
Back in Jo’burg I will give up the bike at the airport and switch luggage, leaving my Bike stuff. I’ve made contact to a BMW-club in Pretoria and perhaps there will be a braai (some kind of BBQ I think). I am really looking forward to this.
Early next morning I’m off to Kruger Park. I’ll join a company from ecoafrica.com for 7 days Safari with Victoria Falls.
On the 30 November my journey back begins. Flying with Zambia Air to Jo’burg. Picking up my bike gear at the airport and the entering a Boeing 747 to Frankfurt. Ill be back in Stockholm on the 1 of December.
Hallo Richard,
ich wünsche dir ne gute, schöne Reise durch den schwarzen Kontinent.
