Karoo biking – picking up the bike

Now I am picking up my bike at the BMW-pavilion in Cape Town Waterfront. I must say, I have never seen a fancier car sale house. The bike is exactly the same as my own, even the same colour. The people are very friendly and I’ll be going on the roads in a couple of minutes. Nice J

Lots of food

A short flight to Cape Town, getting more food. So far I have been eating a hot meal on every flight and I can say it’s not nice anymore. Anyway, I landed I Cape Town. I saw the Table Mountain from the window and there where no clouds. All of Cape Town is sunny and warm. I got picked up by the transfer company I booked from Sweden, about 150 kr to take me downtown.

Unexpected welcoming

I eventually arrived in Johannesburg, picking up my luggage and clearing customs. danirichardOutside the doors, you know where normally all the people are standing waiting for there friends and relatives, I found 2 people carrying a sign with my name on it and a Swedish flag. It was Dani and Richard (nice name there…). I met them on the Internet in a forum. They are both riding BMW:s and wanted to welcome me to SA. It was a great feeling. They took me around the airport showing me everything and I manged to get the next flight to Cape Town.

Delayed

My flight from Frankfurt was delayed over one hour, I’ll miss my connecting flight to Cape Town.  That means I’ll miss Volvo ocean Race 😦

Airport, last minute in Stockholm

I’m not surprised, the first flight is delayed 45 minutes. I should be already be in the air. Well, I’ll have to hurry up in Frankfurt.

I bought som gifts here, quite expensive, but I haven’t got the time before. Dalahästar, wooden “butter knife” and Swedish Snaps will go to South Africa.

Next time you here from me will be from Frankfurt or South Africa.

So long Sweden!

Packing

2xbagDoing last preparations. Packing, unpacking, checking, repacking. And still I think I will forget something. I found a way to put together my two bags for the bike panniers to a single suitcase.

Down in SA the weather is quite bad. On TV this morning they were talking about the lowest pressure since 1979. I’m happy it’s looking better for the week end.

I leave Sweden tomorrow at 19.00. Flying to Frankfurt where I jump on to the next flight to Johannesburg. I will land there at 10.00 local time. After leaving my Safari luggage I will go on to Cape Town, my third flight in 24h.

Needles

Vaccine, how fortunate that I’m not afraid of needles. I got stung three times today. 🙂

Winter?

Today the Swedish meteorology institute SMHI foresees snow in the Stockholm Area. If that’s so I will have to put my bike in winter sleep. In SA it’s spring. Johannesburg 26 degrees C, Kape Town 20… Ahhh!

More plans

On the right (Journeys) you now can read about the safari part of my journey. I even stole some pictures from the Internet…

Where to sleep?

Blue Mountain Backpackers is the place where I will stay my first night in SA. It’s cheep and looks nice. Situated down town not far from the Harbour. I will try to stay at backpackers for the bike-part, it’s more fun when you are travelling alone, easier to meet people.

Before moving on to Hermanus and Moby’s Traveller’s Lodge, I will visit some of the “must-parts” of Cape Town. Table Mountain and Robbin Island will hopefully be nice before whale watching down south.
