Getting around

This is more a travelling and planing blog so if you are looking for my daily life, you’ll have to look somewhere else :)

Warsaw to L’viv

Last minute in Warsaw

I think Poland didn’t want me this time. Again it rained and i had to put on the rain gear, and get soaked. But things changed as I entered the Ukraine. The sun came out and as I arrived in L’viv every thing was dry. I think Ukraineis much friendlier then Poland;)

Ukrainin border

I am once again was stricken by how friendly the Ukrainian are. As I approached the border there was a big line of cars. I did as I always do, overtook them all, even the Police car. The suddenly the road was blocked. A tourist bus with all its passengers hanging around tha bus. You wouldn’t believe what happens, the driver orders everyone to go back into the bus, the he moves the bus so that I can pass. I wish I could have had any way to say thanks. After passing the Polish part, it was time for The Ukrainian border control. Here I was a bit more careful, not stopping in front of the whole line, but at third place. An d what do they do, they go out wowing at me to go on. I just smiled big times. This whole procedure took 40 minutes instead of 3 -4 hours.

I just love these cars

As I then drove away from the border I was immensely careful not to speed. I know they like to stand in bends after borders. But I didn’t see any this time. The road was awful, one pot hole after another. I reminded me of the road I travelled inBotswana. The good thing this time was, that I was on a bike. And the right kind of bike. Instead of avoiding them, I accelerated and drove over them. The suspension did its work wonderfully.

Note the size of the buses

As I entered L’viv, I and my bike got well shaken. I have never seen such bad cobble stone roads. That together with tracks made it very risky to drive. I’m glad it wasn’t wet. The picture says it all.

Road?

I stay in a small hotel in the old town. They insisted that I should park in the back yard. Fine I thought, until I saw the way in.

No room for errors

I had to dismount my panniers to fit. And even then it was very tight. But I feel fully secure. Never better actually.

Safe parking

Tomorrow I will se L’viv and get at Ukrainian SIM-card. I really look forward to see this town.
